The Dutch Ministry of Defense aims to fill more than 100,000 positions over the next four years. At the same time, many young people in the Netherlands are feeling stuck in their careers. Recent graduates face an increasingly difficult job market, while young professionals are searching for work that offers more than just a paycheck. They want purpose, growth, and the opportunity to contribute to society.
So how do you convince people to consider Defense as a meaningful and unexpected career path?

Everyone who is feeling like they’re capable of more, wanting to contribute but don’t know how, or looking for better opportunities in the wrong places: we got them.
By exposing them to the world of Defense - and letting them experience it firsthand - we aim to shift their mindset. An go from off to on. From standing still to moving forward. From comfort to challenge. From simply making a living to making a real impact.
Solution
De wake:up call
We created an entertaining YouTube series that shows how a military environment can help people uncover hidden strengths or drives.
In each episode, candidates who feel stuck in everyday life are unexpectedly taken out of their routine and immersed in a different branch of the military. Over the course of one intense day, they are challenged physically and mentally, pushed beyond their comfort zone, and confronted with skills and qualities they didn’t realize they possessed.
At the end of the experience, participants receive a concrete job or study opportunity within Defense.
Whether they ultimately choose a military career is secondary. The real objective is to show both participants and viewers that Defense is a place where personal growth begins. After all: real growth happens outside your comfort zone.
